Industrial Coalescing Filters & Coalescer Filter Solutions

A coalescing filter is a specialized industrial filter designed to separate liquid aerosols, water vapor, and fine particulate matter from gas streams by forcing tiny droplets to merge — or coalesce — into larger droplets that can be drained away. Chase Filters & Components manufactures the 57 Series coalescing filter line, engineered for oil and gas, chemical processing, aerospace, and industrial applications. Our coalescer filter designs achieve up to 95% micron removal efficiency in a compact, high-pressure housing rated to 60,000 PSI — well beyond what standard coalescence filter options can handle. Whether you need aluminum, stainless steel, or high-pressure compressed gas configurations, Chase delivers coalescing filter solutions built to the exact demands of your system.

At Chase Filters & Components, we offer several types of coalescing filters that deliver the highest purity levels in air gas applications. Our solutions go beyond most conventional filters by offering enhanced separation, prolonging the life of your equipment and delivering a superior product.

How Do Coalescing Filters Work?

Coalescing filters operate on the principle of coalescence, which causes small particles to enjoin form larger particles and eventually drain through gravity. When the gas passes through the filter, the screen separates it from the contaminants and liquids. The filter captures the unwanted water or vapor as the gas proceeds through the system. Once the contaminants and liquids left behind coalesce, they drain away. For a full technical overview of coalescing filter design, media construction, and industrial applications, see our coalescing filter guide.

Coalescers are common in oil, gas, medical, industrial and petrochemical applications, working as an individual filtering solution or as part of a more extensive system. In these operations, they often function as liquid-gas separators during refinement. They fit strategically within a system to help protect equipment from contaminants that can cause damage.

Types of Coalescing Filters and Coalescer Filter Elements We Offer: 57 Series

Chase Filters & Components offers a broad selection of coalescing filters that work for various air and gas applications. These filters feature superior corrosion, temperature and pressure resistance while delivering maximum performance.

Our product line includes:

  • 57 Series Coalescing Aluminum Filters: These high-efficiency compressed air and gas filters feature a 95% micron removal rate and can handle temperatures up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit to deliver superior performance. We coat these filters with an oxide layer and use multiple-sized fibers to ensure smooth and fast drainage.
  • 57 Series Coalescing Stainless Filters: These filters feature weld-free housings consisting of 316L stainless steel to comply with NACE MR-01-75 standards. The filter’s C-grade element contains two borosilicate microfiber layers designed to sift through harsh liquids and aerosols. The inner layer’s fine fibers trap the aerosols, while the outer layer allows fluids to pass through and drain.
  • 57 Series High Pressure Compressed Gas Filters: We design these filters specifically for applications requiring efficient, high-performance compressed gas filtration. The housings meet ASME B31.3 specifications and rate at 5,700 PSIG. The structure consists of high-grade carbon steel with coatings for rust protection.

Our engineering team has decades of experience developing custom coalescing and other filter solutions for unique systems. If your equipment requires a special filter design, we can work with you to create a solution.

Coalescing Filter Applications by Industry

Coalescing filters serve critical roles across a wide range of industries where gas purity directly impacts equipment life, product quality, and process safety:

Oil & Gas: Coalescing filters protect compressors, instrumentation, and transmission lines from liquid hydrocarbon carryover and water vapor. Downhole and surface separation applications rely on high-pressure coalescer filter elements rated to handle extreme operating conditions.

Chemical Processing: In chemical manufacturing, even trace amounts of water or oil aerosols can contaminate reactions or damage downstream equipment. Coalescing filters maintain the gas purity levels required for consistent, repeatable process outcomes.

Aerospace & Defense: Aerospace pneumatic systems require coalescence filter elements that perform reliably across extreme temperature ranges and pressure cycles. Chase manufactures coalescing filters to aerospace specifications for hydraulic and pneumatic test rigs, ground support equipment, and onboard systems.

Compressed Air Systems: Industrial compressed air is almost always contaminated with water vapor and compressor oil aerosols. Installing a coalescing filter at the compressor outlet protects downstream tools, cylinders, and automated equipment.

Alternative Energy: Hydrogen and natural gas processing facilities use coalescing filter elements to remove moisture and fine aerosols before gas enters fuel cells, turbines, or distribution networks.”
